Life-Long Learning

At Litchfield Montessori School we prepare our students academically and socially, enabling students to move on to further education with both a solid foundation in knowledge and the skills for life-long learning.  Because the Montessori method emphasizes learning through the curious senses at the early ages and adds learning through questioning as well as doing at the upper levels, the child’s natural curiosity develops and grows.  That curiosity and the ability to ask useful and insightful questions stays with the child throughout life and leads to continuous learning.  Teachers of Litchfield Montessori School graduates often remark on the creative problem-solving and thoughtful questions our students ask in their classes, questions that promote the child’s own learning as well as the learning of other children in the classroom.  

The multi-age classrooms enable a child to progress at an individual pace through the many skills and understandings of each level but also promote a sense of community of learners in the classroom in which older students eagerly help younger students with learning.  Our students always feel part of a community of learning shared with teachers and classmates and carry this attitude on to later schooling.  They are engaged students who view teachers and other students as allies in further learning.
