Affording Litchfield Montessori School 

At the beginning of the new year, the Board of Trustees convenes to set our tuition. To do so, they must balance the financial requirements of sustaining our programming and supporting our talented teachers with our mission to keep a Montessori education as affordable for as many families as possible.

Variable Tuition

Litchfield Montessori School uses a variable tuition model. The variable tuition model allows families to pay tuition that is proportional to their financial position. Some families, who might not expect to be eligible for “financial aid,” may still qualify for a tuition break. Litchfield Montessori School is committed to making a Montessori Education available to as many children as possible, and more than 50% of our students participate in the variable tuition program. This model enables families to educate their children as equal members of an economically, racially and culturally diverse community.

Tuition ranges from $8,150 - $16,800*
  Elementary     6 – 12 Years
 Monday – Friday 8:30 – 3:10  Tuition ranges from $8,850 - 18,300*

* Full tuition rates apply to those not applying for variable tuition

The Variable Tuition deadline is January 15. If there are funds remaining after that date, we will consider late applications. Please contact Betsy Johnson at bjohnson@litchfieldmontessori.org if you’d like to apply for variable tuition after January 15.

How Does Variable Tuition Work?
All families who would like to be considered for variable tuition must complete and submit the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS) available through FAST Financial Assistance, a service of Independent School Management by January 15.  The process includes a detailed, application outlining the family’s financial situation, including among other things: assets, debts, property owned, cars, vacations, loans and savings.  As well, the family submits tax returns from the previous year, W-2 and 1099 forms. FAST processes your application, then makes a recommendation for each financial aid package to be awarded on a case-by-case basis.  This service helps LMS make fair and objective decisions about financial assistance.  A family’s application is kept completely private by both FAST and Litchfield Montessori School.

How Do Families Apply? 
Step 1: Submit the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) online at FAST Financial Assistance by January 15, 2020
Step 2: Submit 2019 Tax Information to FAST by January 15, 2020 including W-2 and 1099 forms.
Step 3: 2019 taxes must be submitted to FAST by April 15, 2020.

Does Every Family That Applies for Variable Tuition Receive an Adjusted Tuition Rate?
Litchfield Montessori School make its decisions based on the recommendation of FAST. If a family does not qualify for variable tuition through FAST’s calculations, they may not receive adjusted tuition. As well, due to budgetary constraints, Litchfield Montessori School may not be able to award variable tuition to every student that qualifies.

How is Variable Tuition Handled in Situations Where Parents are Separated or Divorced?
Parents/Guardians living in separate households must each submit separate PFS forms. It is expected that both parents contribute to the cost of a child’s education. SSS considers all households’ resources, regardless of legal documents, when determining their ability to pay. If extenuating circumstances make it impossible for all households to submit a PFS to FAST, please contact Betsy Johnson.

What is the Timeline for Notification of Variable Tuition?
Reenrollment and variable tuition statements will be mailed in late February for all those meeting the January 15 deadline. After that, notification will happen on a rolling basis.

Smart Tuition Payment Plan 

The 2019-2020 school year options are as follows: SMART Tuition Plan services our school with Payments & Options Plans.

Option A:

Ten (10) monthly payments commencing on the first of July and ending on the first of April. A deposit of $1,000 (applied to the tuition balance) is required at the time of enrollment. An annual service fee of $200 is also applied to this payment option.

Option B:

Pay in three (3) installments - July, November, and February. A deposit of $1,000 (applied to the tuition balance) is required at the time of enrollment. An annual service fee of $100 is also applied to this payment option.

Option C:

Pay your tuition in full on or prior to May 1, 2019 and receive a 3% discount. A deposit of $1,000 (applied to the tuition balance) is required at the time of enrollment. Full payment MUST be received on or prior to May 1, 2019 to be eligible for this discount. Payments received after May 1, 2019 will not be eligible. This payment is made directly to the school.
