My strongest LMS memories are of the Montessori educational materials that were featured in the classroom, particularly the multi-colored counting beads. To this day, I continue to associate numbers with the colors of the beads (1 = red, 2 = green, 3 = orange, and so on). Additionally, I have always been interested in maps and geography (I will often pick up an atlas and look at the names of random cities in different countries and imagine what it must be like to live there), which was nurtured by the colorful puzzle maps that we used to trace and cut out our own maps in the classroom.

    “Forty years on...”

Ten years ago, in celebration of the 30th anniversary, I was asked to write about LMS and how it all began, and now the school is in it's 40th year! Here is what I wrote those ten years ago:

Thirty years? Thirty years! I think I have to go lie down in a darkened room with a cold cloth on my head. How did we suddenly go from a tenuous but hopeful meeting in my dining room to start a carpool to a sturdy thriving school? How did the young daughter who inspired me get to be the age I was when I started the school? Where have the years gone?
