Our Mission
We are committed to serving the whole child, guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, dedicated to nurturing the child’s love of learning, preserving the child’s sense of wonder, encouraging independence and fostering respect for our world’s social and cultural diversity.
Interested in Litchfield Montessori School?
We welcome inquiries, visits, and applications from all families with children 15 months to 12 years old. LMS enrolls families, not just students. Our goal is to welcome families who will both benefit from and contribute to the school’s mission.
The Admissions Process
Step 1)
Schedule a tour.
We ask that parents visit the school to observe in a classroom and to talk with our Admissions Director and teachers before bringing their child.
Why We Ask You to Observe
Observing in one of our classrooms provides you with the opportunity to witness first hand what makes a Montessori classroom unique:
- To observe the children working independently and with responsibility
- To observe the Director/Directress moving from child to child giving individualized lessons
- To observe the classroom as a community
- To observe a multi-age group setting
- To observe one child teaching another
You will then be invited to return to the school so that your child may visit with a trained Montessori teacher and explore the classroom materials.
Step 2)
Submit an Application and Questionnaire
There are two easy ways to complete your application. Simply fill out the forms below and pay the application fee online, and your information will go directly to our Admissions Director. If you prefer to fill out the paper application, the forms can be downloaded and printed.
There is a $50.00 application fee for all prospective students.
Paper forms can be mailed to the school with a check for $50.00, or feel free to drop them off at the school office anytime.

Admissions Decisions
Once a child is accepted into the program, we will reach out personally to the family by phone, and an enrollment contract and all registration paperwork will be mailed to the family. (All registration paperwork is also available online.)
Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis after a family has visited and submitted their child’s application. Families are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Qualified children may be accepted mid-year if a family desires early enrollment.
Qualified students of all ages are welcomed to apply and will be eligible for admissions. Priority is given to students transferring from other Montessori schools and to children between 15 months – 3 years because experience has shown that children already familiar with Montessori classrooms or just beginning their schooling adapt most readily to the classic Montessori curriculum at LMS.
Statement of Non-Discrimination
The Litchfield Montessori School does not discriminate on the basis of race, religious creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status or disability. This policy applies to, but is not limited to, admission, financial aid, and employment.
