Our Mission

We are committed to serving the whole child, guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, dedicated to nurturing the child’s love of learning, preserving the child’s sense of wonder, encouraging independence and fostering respect for our world’s social and cultural diversity.

Interested in Litchfield Montessori School?

We welcome inquiries, visits, and applications from all families with children 15 months to 12 years old.  LMS enrolls families, not just students.  Our goal is to welcome families who will both benefit from and contribute to the school’s mission.

The Admissions Process

Step 1)

Schedule a tour.

Have you been to visit us yet?

Parents are invited to tour the school, observe in a classroom, and meet with our Admissions Director. This first step in the admissions process is designed for parents only, without children.

SCHEDULE A TOUR

Why We Ask You to Observe

Observing in one of our classrooms provides you with the opportunity to witness first hand what makes a Montessori classroom unique:

  • children working independently and with responsibility
  • the guide moving from child to child giving individual and small group lessons
  • a multi-age group setting
  • one child teaching another

You will then be invited to return to the school so that your child may visit with a trained Montessori teacher and explore the classroom materials.

Step 3)

Schedule your child's visit with a class level guide.

For children applying for Young People's Community (15 months - 3 years), the guide will observe them during the morning work cycle. The parent may be in the room during this time.

Children applying for Children's House (3 years - 5 years) come after school to spend time individually with the guide.

Elementary applicants come after school to meet the guide and then return for a morning work cycle.

The Admissions Director will schedule your child's observation with you in Step 1.

Step 4) Admissions Decision

You receive a call from our Admissions Director with next steps.
