Weekly Update May 10 - 17

May 10th, 2024

During this period of growth [childhood] the child learns spontaneously, without tiring; he observes the things around him (one might even say he studies them) and absorbs them, thereby invigorating himself.

Montessori Moment:

“A child, who more than anyone else is a spontaneous observer of nature, certainly needs to have at his disposal material upon which he can work. ”
Maria Montessori
The Discovery of the Child

The grounds of LMS provide our children with the necessary materials they need to observe, explore, and experience nature.

This opportunity is accompanied with the exposure to nature's little pests.

What about tick PREVENTION?

Although the school has a tick-twister, which is a very effective way of removing the whole tick, there are ways to prevent ticks before they bite.

These safe, effective products are also recommended to families concerned with tick exposure:

PERMETHRIN

Insect Repellent Treatment for Clothing, Gear, and Tents

Effective against mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, and mites for up to 6 weeks

For use on clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor gear, Sawyer Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent not only repels insects, it actually kills mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, mites, and more than 55 other kinds of insects on contact. Odorless after drying, Permethrin will not stain or damage clothing, fabrics, plastics, finished surfaces, or any of your gear.

Use Permethrin on clothing by itself or with skin-applied repellents to create the ultimate protective, armor-like insect barrier.

PICARIDIN

Topical insect repellent

Repels ticks, and mosquitoes up to 12 hours, and flies, gnats, and chiggers up to 8 hours.

Safe for the whole family, Sawyer 20% Picaridin premium Insect repellent spray and lotion — more effective at repelling biting flies than DEET; is effective against flies, ticks, and mosquitoes.

The long-lasting, fragrance-free Sawyer picaridin-based Insect repellent can be applied to your skin as well as clothing, outdoor gear, and more.

Non-greasy; dries quickly and won't damage plastics or synthetic coatings — safe for use on clothing, backpacks, watches, sunglasses, fishing line, firearm finishes, and more; 6-oz Bag-on-Valve (BOV) can; sprays evenly in any orientation.
