The Litchfield Historical Society is excited to host First Oval Office Project the first week of October.
 
The First Oval Office Project is the Museum of the American Revolution's reproduction of General George Washington’s headquarters during the Revolution. The replica encampment includes camp equipage, furnishings, and living history interpreters who bring to life the stories of the diverse people and complex events surrounding the Revolutionary War.  
 
As part of their visit to Litchfield, we are organizing a School Day on Friday, October 2, 2026 Field trips will include:
  • Entering Washington's mobile headquarters and exploring the camp furniture, maps, and equipment that Washington would have used while leading the Continental Army. 
  • Interacting with costumed educators and historians who will be sharing the perspectives of soldiers, civilians, and community members.
  • Taking part in demonstrations with the replica tools, equipment, and uniforms. 

The Upper Elementary children will be going to Litchfield Historical Society for the Litchfield Montessori School (“LMS”) trip to the First Oval Office Project (the “school outing”).

Students will depart LMS at 12:40 p.m. and travel via volunteer driver to the Litchfield Historical Society Tapping Reeve House & Law School. 

They will be accompanied by adult chaperones: Upper Elementary Guide Kate Gnitzcavich and Upper Elementary Assistant Gina Hepp. 

The class will return to LMS for regular dismissal time at 3:15 p.m.

Assumption of Risk: I realize that no environment is risk-free, and as such I have instructed my child on the importance of abiding by rules defined by the group leaders, and they agree that they will obey the LMS rules and the rules of the group leaders. I understand that there are risks associated with my child participating in school outings and agree that LMS cannot safeguard against all potential injuries. Nevertheless, I believe that the benefits to my child of participating in this school outing outweighs the risk and hazard involved.  In view of the foregoing, the undersigned voluntarily assumes the risk of injury that may result from participation in any program activity and herewith releases LMS, its Board of Trustees, officers, agents, faculty, employees, and students  from all liability for any injury caused by, or resulting from, participation in program activities, including negligence.

Waiver of Claims: I do hereby waive any and all claims that I and/or my child might have against LMS and its Board of Trustees, officers, agents, faculty, employees, and students for any injury, damage, loss or claim sustained during or arising out of my child’s participation in this school outing, including claims of negligence on the part of LMS, which are not caused by the gross negligence or intentional misconduct of LMS or its staff.

Release of Liability:  I do further hereby release, waive, acquit  and discharge, and hold LMS and its Board of Trustees, officers, agents, faculty, employees, and students from any and all liability, damages, losses, illness or claims, even if due to the  negligent acts or omissions of any child, or LMS, its students, agents or employees, sustained by my child during participation in this school outing. This release applies to any future negligent acts or omissions that may occur and that may result in injury, harm, or loss to my child whether or not such acts were foreseeable.

Indemnification and Hold Harmless:  I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless LMS and its Board of Trustees, officers, agents, faculty, employees, and students from any loss or liability whatsoever, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, to any third party for any injury, damage, loss or claim arising out of or related to my child’s participation in this school outing. I further agree that my indemnity obligation to LMS includes my obligation to pay all costs or expenses incurred by LMS for attorneys’ fees and court costs in the defense of any action brought by any third party against LMS arising out of my child’s participation in the school outing.

Prescription or over the counter medications provided to the school in advance will be administered according to documented physician’s instructions only if the parent provides written consent. In the case of severe illness or emergency I hereby _*____ LMS staff permission to treat my son or daughter to the standard of care for which they are trained. I also _*___  LMS faculty and staff permission to seek medical attention on behalf of my son or daughter until the parent or guardian can be contacted and assume responsibility for the child’s medical treatment.

I understand that my child will be transported in a private vehicle that will be driven by either a staff member or a parent volunteer. All volunteer drivers have passed a full FBI background check. Each driver has signed the Volunteer Driver Agreement, in which they assume responsibility for specific license, insurance and vehicle requirements and in which they assume responsibility and liability for any incident that occurs while transporting students off school property.

Electronic Signature Authorization

By applying my electronic signature to this agreement, I agree that my electronic signature is the legally binding equivalent of my handwritten signature on paper. I will not, at any future time, claim that my electronic signature is not legally binding or enforceable. By electronically signing and submitting this agreement, I  1) acknowledge that I have read and fully understand the terms of the agreement; 2) voluntarily agree to be bound by this agreement; and  3) certify that I am 18 years of age or older. My signature applies to all pages of this contract. I understand that if I wish to sign a hard copy of this agreement instead of an electronic version, I must contact the party that requires my signature on this agreement directly.

I understand that my child’s participation in this school outing is not mandatory. By signing this form, I acknowledge that I have read this document in its entirety, I understand its legal significance, and I thoroughly understand the authorization that I am hereby providing, and I voluntarily agree to be bound by it.
