Weekly Update Sept. 18 - 25

September 17th, 2026

I have observed for myself the exuberance, the generosity with which the nature of the child responds to scientific education. This observation left me thoughtful and filled with awe; and I became a faithful follower of the child’s spirit.

Important Update on Lunch Options

After consulting with the parents of children with nut allergies, we’ve determined that it is safe at this time to allow almond butter as a spread option in student lunches across all classes. Please remember that peanut butter and all peanut products are not permitted at school and will not be an option.

To ensure everyone's safety:
  • Almond butter will not be offered as a group snack in any classroom or club.
  • Because we do have students with tree nut and sunflower seed allergies, children should never share food from their lunches with one another. We appreciate your help reinforcing this with your child.

We hope this provides a helpful option for those seeking healthy sources of protein for their children's lunches. Thank you for your continued care and consideration of all students in our community!

Handbook Highlight:

Our Handbook Highlight draws attention to a section of the LMS Family Handbook that is especially helpful for families to know or revisit. While printed copies are available in the front office, our Family Handbook is a living document and may be updated throughout the year as practices or policies are clarified.

Fall & Winter Illnesses -

For the members of our community who are immune compromised, and for the rest of us who appreciate not being exposed to illness, please help keep everyone well this season.

Please read this excerpt from page 10 of our Family Handbook:

Health & Safety Protocols

It is important to recognize that all health and safety risks cannot be eliminated despite the implementation of reasonable and age-appropriate precautions and protocols. Keeping our school community healthy is a shared responsibility. We ask families to support this effort by keeping children home when they are sick.

Please keep your child home if he or she has symptoms of illness. Fever, a sore throat, vomiting, or greenish colored discharge from the nose are clear signs of illness.

  • Students may return to school after they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducers.
  • If they or anyone in your house has the stomach bug, please keep children home for a minimum of 48 hours after symptoms have passed.

When students come to school sick, they jeopardize the health of their schoolmates, faculty and staff. If your child begins to show symptoms of illness while at school, we will contact families to arrange for the child to be picked up.

Parents should notify the school in the morning if their child is sick and will not be coming to school. If your child has a communicable disease, i.e., strep throat, G.I. ailments, respiratory illnesses, etc., please notify the school.

  • Frequent hand washing: Parents and school faculty will model and give lessons on effective hand washing to support children as they learn to properly wash their hands: after wiping their nose or touching their eyes, before and after eating or using the bathroom, and when they come in from playing outside.
  • Cough and sneeze etiquette: Children will be reminded to practice good personal hygiene, to cover all coughs and sneezes with their elbow, and to wash their hands with soap and water immediately after covering a cough/sneeze.

For further information about the current expectations with regard to keeping everyone healthy this season, please refer to the 2026/27 Family Handbook.

Help keep everyone in the loop:

When calling out, please send a Remind message to both Michelle in the Office and your child's teacher.
