Weekly Update Dec. 8 - Dec. 15

December 8th, 2023

It is tremendously important that we should understand the spontaneous way in which the child develops himself. We are so anxious to help, to us it seems the burden of growth and development is so great that we must do all we can to make the pathway easy. And so our love may easily overreach itself by providing too many urges, too many cautions and corrections.

The Giving Tree

Collecting items until December 14th

A treasured LMS tradition, please help by donating gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, as well as gently used winter coats to decorate the Giving Tree.

Before Winter Break, students from the elementary classes will drop off items to be distributed to local families in need.

Thank you to our alumni family, The Kowalchicks, for donating the tree itself!

Things to know...

Connecting:

Remind -

To make it easier for you to connect with other parents in your child's class while maintaining some privacy, we now provide access within Remind for parents to send messages to each other. You can now communicate not only with faculty and staff, but with other parents in the class. Please respect the desire many of us have to limit the number of emails, texts, and messages we receive in a week.

Things to know...No

Winter Illnesses -

For the members of our community who are immune compromised, and for the rest of us who appreciate not being exposed to illness, please help keep everyone well this winter. Please read this page from our parent handbook for further information about the current expectations with regard to keeping everyone healthy this season.

Give to the Annual Fund

Thank you to all who have contributed so far!

The participation of every parent in our annual fund campaign is essential.  It shows that, as a community, we value and invest in our children's education. It also encourages outside donors and grant organizations to support us, as they see the strong backing by our own community.

The Third Plane of Development: Ages 12-18 - Montessori Philosophy

by NAMC Montessori Blog

"Early youth (12-15) are coming to terms with their new identity as an adolescent and the world outside the family and school. For the first time, they no longer see themselves as sons or daughters, brothers or sisters, or students, but as individuals who must integrate all of their separate identities into one while moving into a larger community. This is a time of dissonance as childhood ends and a new identity emerges. Learn more about this sometimes confusing plane to help prepare yourself and your child for positive growth experiences."

Community Circle - The Adolescent Plane of Development -

Presenters Caren Ross, Alex Pape, and Sheila Coad-Bernard from the adolescent Montessori programs at MSGH Millstream and Washington Montessori School will convey the needs and characteristics of the adolescent child, the concept of valorization, and how both schools are organized to support those core principles.

Please join us no matter your child's age; it is never too early to start learning about the next steps in your child's Montessori journey.
