Weekly Update Oct. 9th - 16th

October 8th, 2026

“Love is more than the electricity which lightens our darkness, more than the etheric waves that transmit our voices across space, more than any of the energies that man has discovered and learned to use. Of all things love is the most potent. ”
Maria Montessori
The Absorbent Mind, p. 269

Things to know...

AFTER PICTURE DAY Notes from Rebecca

  • PRIVATE GALLERIES:
You’ll receive a link to your child’s private online gallery, sent to the same email the school uses to contact you. Please keep an eye out for it, and check your spam folder just in case! The email will come from: [email protected]
  • WHAT'S INCLUDED:
Each gallery contains 3–5 final images of your child.
  • ORDERING:
Ordering is simple and flexible. There are no sitting fees, no order minimums, and no pre-set packages. Instead, you’ll find a la carte pricing, which means you can purchase exactly what you love, whether that’s a single digital download, a few small prints, or something framed for your home.

You’ll be able to view all images in your child’s gallery before deciding to purchase. Digital downloads are delivered instantly after checkout, and prints or products are shipped directly from the lab that I partner with to your home.

  • PRINTS & PRODUCTS

Every item is produced by a professional lab that offers excellent color quality and craftsmanship. From standard prints to framed pieces and fine art options, you can choose the combination that fits your family best. Your prints ship directly to your home as soon as your order is ready, so there's no waiting for a school delivery day.

  • GALLERY EXPIRATION

Galleries remain open for 2 weeks. I’ll send a few reminders before they close, so you won’t miss your chance to order.  If you’ve already placed an order and still receive a reminder email, no need to worry - your order went through. I send reminders to all families, just in case.

Fall Clubs are here!

On Wednesdays, elementary children are invited to explore their creativity and the art of pottery in Abundant Circle – The Joy of Clay, led by Monika, LE Assistant & Art Specialist.

On Tuesdays, elementary children are invited to Running Club with Betsy where they will learn about warming up and cooling down, running safely on the road and trails, nutrition, and running for one’s own self and wellbeing.

Saturday, Oct. 17th:

Annual Fall Festival

Join us for one of our favorite LMS traditions!

Our annual Fall Festival is Saturday, October 17, from 1:00–5:00 p.m.

Come spend the afternoon with friends and family and enjoy delicious barbecue from the Hindsight BBQ food truck, Peaches 'N Cream ice cream truck, LIVE music from The Tradesmen, and all the fun of Fall Festival at LMS.

This year’s celebration will be especially meaningful as we gather at 3:00 p.m. to celebrate Grail and her retirement after her many years as part of the LMS community.

We hope current and alumni families will join us in showing Grail just how much she has meant to our school over the years.

Mark your calendars and come celebrate fall, community, and Grail with us!

Link the LMS calendar to your preferred electronic calendar to stay up to date on school happenings and volunteer opportunities.

Handbook Highlight:

Our Handbook Highlight draws attention to a section of the LMS Family Handbook that is especially helpful for families to know or revisit. While printed copies are available in the front office, our Family Handbook is a living document and may be updated throughout the year as practices or policies are clarified.

Insect Repellent Policy

At Litchfield Montessori School, children routinely go on outdoor adventures where they may be exposed to both sun and insects. As always, we aim to support the health and comfort of each child while respecting individual family choices. We advise that you send your child with sun protective clothing and administer insect repellent before school each day. We ask that you apply insect repellent at home. If you wish to do so at drop-off, please park and apply repellent on the lawn, away from other cars and families. A morning application will cover them for an entire school day. If you would like your child to reapply insect repellent during a field trip that goes beyond regular school hours, please fill out a form (provided prior to a field trip) pertaining to insect repellent. Do not send your child to school with the insect repellent. If you choose to send it for use on a trip, please bring it to the office in advance, clearly labeled with your child’s full name. Wrist bands or insect repellent stickers may be sent to school with your child and worn at school at parents’ discretion without filling out a form or sending those items to the office first.

We love the woods, but maybe not everything in them...

Please check your children nightly for ticks.

Although we think ticks go away with summer, adult ticks are actually out in full force in the fall.  We love to let our children play the woods and leaf piles, but that means we need to do our part to educate ourselves and our children.

Please find linked, two informative posters to start/continue the conversation with your child. It is important that even a small child knows to tell an adult if they feel any kind of bump/itch or creepy crawly that might be a tick.

*The school has a tick-twister, which is a very effective way of removing the whole tick.
