What's "normal" at different stages in a child's development?
Join us for an evening Community Circle event you won't want to miss.
Dr. Ann Milanese, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician for Connecticut Children's, and APRN Dana Eisenberg, former Head of School at Seven Acres Montessori, will present on and answer questions about child development spanning 15 months to 12 years of age.
This event will be followed by another opportunity to go out for the evening with parents in our community. Childcare provided during the one-hour event, or set up a sitter to enjoy an extended evening out. No sitter, no problem! Limited spots are also available for extended childcare here at the school provided by Diane and her babysitters-in-training. An RSVP via Remind will go out next week.

LMS Student Art Show!
Thank you to everyone who attended our opening reception yesterday evening.
Artwork will be on display January 4th - 26th at OWL (Oliver Wolcott Library) in Litchfield.
"Forces of Life" - Mixed Media
Our newest art show, Forces of Life, features work from our talented Montessori students. The exhibit offers a look into the power of expression of the individual as well as the whole community. As a central focus of Montessori elementary education, the independence of the child is encouraged as well as the ability to work in partnership within a community and to respect the natural world around us.
The exhibit opens with the American modernist painter whose career spanned seven decades, Georgia O’Keefe. She was known as the “Mother of American Modernism.” From the elegance of the painted form, we move into the tactile perfection of pattern and texture. The elementary students are introduced to the ancient art form of weaving. Lastly, we turned our focus to the art of printmaking. We studied the intricate wood block carvings of German printmaker Albrecht Durer and referenced early printmaking techniques developed in China.
We look forward to your presence at our art show.
Snow Protocols:
Just a reminder that, when it comes to weather delays and cancelations, Litchfield Montessori School typically follows the Litchfield Public Schools’ decision.
Delay Opening: There is no Early Bird care on those occasions and school begins at 10am, unless the forecast requires an alternative.
Early Dismissal: We will let you know as soon as possible via Remind, so you can make plans to pick up your child(ren).
Make sure you’ve signed up for Remind, as this is how we will notify you in the event of a delay, closing, or early dismissal.
Winter Illnesses -
For the members of our community who are immune compromised, and for the rest of us who appreciate not being exposed to illness, please help keep everyone well this winter. Please read this page from our parent handbook for further information about the current expectations with regard to keeping everyone healthy this season.
Help keep everyone in the loop: When calling out, please send a Remind message to both Betsy and your child's teacher.
Give to the Annual Fund
Thank you to all who have contributed so far!
The participation of every parent in our annual fund campaign is essential. It shows that, as a community, we value and invest in our children's education. It also encourages outside donors and grant organizations to support us, as they see the strong backing by our own community.

My child won’t listen to me – 10 tips to turn things around
by Simone Davies from The Montessori Notebook
"5. Allow time to process
I am always shocked when I stop and count to 10 in my head after making a request from my kids, just how many urges I have to repeat myself in that short period of time. And by the time I get to 8 or 9 in my head I see them starting to respond. No nagging required. It’s brilliant.
Do NOT underestimate the power of allowing some time for them to process what you have said and transition."
